Automotive Engineering Jobs
A branch of vehicle engineering, modern automotive engineering is a fast growing sector and engineers work on the development and operation of ground-based vehicles including passenger cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles.
Automotive engineering job roles include designing and revising products, research and development, project management and the production process. Automotive engineers study subjects such as aerodynamics, vehicle ride, crashworthiness and handling, and work in three main areas – product or design engineering (designing and testing a part, ensuring it meets all requirements and performs as required); development engineering (engineering the attributes of the automobile), and manufacturing engineering (determining how to make it).
Once established, engineers usually specialise in a particular area, for example, structural design, exhaust systems or engines. They are usually involved in at least one of the three general areas; research, design or testing. Successful automotive engineers possess both engineering and commercial skills, as their technical solutions must be both efficient and economical, often negotiating development and engineering costs with profitability in mind. If you have a passion for automobiles, innovative ideas and sound technical sense, automotive engineering could be the job for you.
