Network Rail

Company Profile

Network Rail is involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures that this country has ever seen - from Crossrail to investment in world-class stations and major programmes of electrification. We need great Engineers to join us on our journey to build a better railway for a better Britain.

Why we're so important Britain relies on rail. Every day Network Rail gets 4 million people to their destination and thousands of tonnes of goods moved around the country. Rail is a greener and safer mode of transport so it's no surprise that our railway has seen passenger numbers increase more than 40% in the past decade alone. These numbers are expected to double by 2034. That means we have to run more trains, more often and more efficiently. And we need even more talented people on board to efficiently meet that challenge.

Our network

We run 20,000 miles of track, 40,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts, 17 major stations, 8,200 commercial properties, and 2,500 stations leased to train operators.

Whichever trade you choose, you'll be working to transform this vast network of rail, signals, electrified lines and telecommunications so they're ready for the future.

The future

Our future is equally bright. We're in the midst of the largest expansion of our network since the railway boom of the 19th Century. Projects such as the Thameslink Programme and the Reading redevelopment will mean more capacity on some of our busiest routes and make up the largest expansion of the railway for more than a century.
