Project Management engineer jobs
As a project manager in engineering, you’ll plan and manage projects, making sure they are completed on time and within budget. Working on almost any kind or size of project, this exciting role typically involves ascertaining what the client wants to achieve, agreeing timescales, costs and resources, drawing up detailed plan, selecting and leading a project team, negotiating with contractors and monitoring progress of the project. There are various levels of project management engineers at different firms, and a senior engineer may manage several individual project engineers.
Tools of the trade include project-management methods such as PRINCE2 (Projects in Controlled Environments) and specialised computer software to assist with scheduling, costing and risk analysis. Work is usually office-based – project managers are usually employed by the company that has been commissioned to complete the job - but there may be travel to meetings or visiting contractors, suppliers or building sites. They could also be employed by a client if the company was big enough to handle the task itself. Successful project managers have excellent organisational, planning and time management skills, are logical thinkers with creative problem-solving ability, and have good attention to detail.
