What does it take to be a construction engineer
A vital player in the construction business, construction engineers plan and direct construction projects, handling everything from the design of the project to conducting surveys and being on-hand during the daily construction activities to ensure that everything is going to plan.
Depending on the project, the role of the construction engineer will vary. They may design the plans for roads, bridges, pipelines, sewage systems, railroads and more. Daily duties could also include producing reports and environmental statements, preparing diagrams, charts and surveys showing information about the area and desired project, providing technical advice, determining costs and meetings with related parties such as builders, environmental agencies and even the general public.
It is beneficial for construction engineers to possess good analytical, mathematical and problem solving skills, as well as being a team player – while some specific tasks may be completed alone, at other times a team may need to be relied upon.Attention to detail and good communication skills are also advantageous, as a construction engineer will often have to convey their findings to people throughout the course of a project.
