Power

Power

Electricity provides the energy for almost everything we do and is the domain of the power engineer, who is responsible for generating electricity, transferring it to the various distribution networks and ensuring its delivery to millions of homes and businesses.

Power engineering covers power systems, electrical machines, electric drive systems and power electronics, in addition to renewable energy resources. Engineers will be required to design and construct motors, generators and transformers, and monitor and maintain it once it has been assembled. Other duties include discussing plans and researching various issues with clients, identifying the best way of addressing an issue or streamlining a process, and problem-solving.

The demand for power engineers is evident because of rising pressure to make power systems more efficient and from the way the power industry has developed, and is expected to increase in the future. Engineers work in a wide variety of disciplines including electricity supply, electric machines, electric drive manufacturers, power electronics manufacturers and users, renewable energy resources manufacturers and users and in traction industries.
