Surveying

Surveying

Survey engineers are often pioneers involved in the trial and test of new equipment, and today’s survey engineers face continual rapid advances in equipment technology, driven by the commercial and technical demands of the offshore industry.

Specific disciplines include fault finding, repair and maintenance of electronic, computer and electromechanical equipment, installation and interfacing of equipment either on board ships or on remotely operated vehicles, calibraton and verification of measuring devices, and development of existing survey systems to fulfil specific project requirements.

Survey engineers can expect to travel overseas. They also have to be resourceful, resilient and be able to work in a team environment. Due to the nature of the role, they also have to be self-motivated and good communicators. In many areas of the world, potential offshore workers must undergo and pass a special medical examination.
