Women's Engineering Society (WES)

The Women's Engineering Society (WES) is a professional, not-for-profit network which aims to support members of WES and women in general to achieve their potential as engineers, scientists and technologists; to encourage the study and application of engineering; to help engineering companies to promote gender diversity and equality in the workplace; and to lobby Government, organisations and policy makers to strive for equality, both in the workplace and in the promotion of engineering as a career.

WES produces a quarterly journal received by 1000 members, a monthly newsletter received by 4000 subscribers, organises conferences, student events, and local activities, and offers grants and awards in the engineering and related sectors. It works in partnership with schools, colleges, UTCs and universities to deliver best practice in attracting female students, and with a range of companies to deliver training and mentoring to improve engineering diversity. Although the world has changed since a group of women decided to band together to create an organisation to support women in engineering in 1919, the need is very much still there.

In 2014 the Women’s Engineering Society celebrates its 95th anniversary and launches National Women in Engineering Day to raise the profile and celebrate the achievements of women in engineering. We are encouraging Government Departments, Companies, Schools, Colleges and Universities, Organisations and Individuals to get involved and organise an event on or around 23 June 2014.
